Indian and Asian Coffees

Our Coffees

Our Coffees

All the coffees in this section are hand roasted in small batches in one of our two coffee roasters. The roaster in the shop window was purchased secondhand in 1936 and can still be used today. We also have a larger roaster in our warehouse behind the Crouch St shop. We roast 14 different types of coffee bean which we sell 100% pure or in 3 House Blends. Costa Rica is by far the most popular coffee in the range and is the 'House' Coffee' for our popular 99p Take-Away coffees.

Bulk Coffee
We can 'contract' roast to your specifications any quantity of coffee from 10Kg. You can specify the coffee type and darkness of roast, or you can specify a blend roasted to your taste. Please phone or email for more details and bulk pricing. Trade enquiries welcome.

The picture depicts our warehouse roaster ejecting beans to a storage container.

Prices quoted are per 100g. Please choose the quantity of coffee and the type of grind required.

This Arabica coffee is grown in the Kerala Region and dried in the coastal town of Malabar. The coffee is dried in warehouses with openable sides and when the monsoons come, the moist winds are allowed to blow over the drying beans swelling them and changing the flavour to a mellow but aggressive, earthy / musty taste.

Originally when the coffee was transported by sail the journey took many months and the coffee was subjected to high moisture in the ship's hold. When faster ships took over the coffee was received sooner but the customers were unwilling to accept the 'fresher' product as the flavour was so different. So the government stored the coffee for a period before exporting it. More earthy & spicier than Sumatra.

Sumatran coffee is strong with a syrupy quality. It is heavy bodied and slightly chocolatey. Ideal for after dinner drinking and the addition of milk or cream will not affect the flavour.

This coffee is a 70/30 blend of Arabica and Robusta beans which are blended at source.
It is very smooth and strongly flavoured. It is excellent for espresso but also makes a great cup by any other method.
It is should leave 'stripes' on the crema when used in espresso.
