Welcome to H.Gunton's online store.

We hope you enjoy your visit and find something to tickle your tastebuds!

We have been trading from our Crouch St store for over 70 years, having been founded in 1936 by Herbert Gunton to roast coffee and sell groceries to the general public.

We still hand roast a range of coffees and sell general groceries but, we also have an extensive range of cheese from around Britain and the rest of Europe, many local products from East Anglia and many specialist food products that are hard to find.

We also specialise in bespoke hampers for both corporate orders and the general public all year round. To compliment this we have a large selection of baskets.

Hand Packed Loose Teas

We have been packing and blending tea since we started trading in 1936. We now stock a range of 26 black, green and white teas and many branded teas in the Colchester store.
On line we concentrate on our range of loose teas. All 26 are available online here.
All teas are hand packed in 125g kraft bags in store. We also extend the range with different premium teas as they become available. Please check back to see any limited stock teas.

Featured Cheesemaker : QuickesFeatured Cheesemaker : Quickes
Our most popular Farmhouse Cheddar by far and now also available from Quickes a hard goats milk 'Cheddar'.

The Quicke family have been farming at Home Farm, near the village of Newton St. Cyres in the South West of England, for over 450 years. 25 years ago Sir John Quicke and his wife Prue built the dairy, where Sir John’s daughter Mary continues to produce outstanding cheeses today.
Quickes make award-winning traditional cheeses using milk from their own dairy herd. Every truckle is handmade by one of nine skilled cheese makers before being wrapped in muslin and carefully matured for anything up to 24 months.
